Cadensa vs Clockify: EU Time Tracking

Both track time. Only one keeps your data in Europe on every plan.

If your agency operates under GDPR, your time tracking tool matters. Clockify stores workspace data in a global region by default β€” EU (Germany) residency is available only on its Pro and Enterprise plans. Cadensa stores all customer data within the EU (Hetzner, Germany & OVHcloud, France) β€” on every plan, including Free.

The GDPR Difference

Under GDPR and Schrems II, EU companies are responsible for where their vendors store personal data. Clockify defaults to a global data region, and EU (Germany) residency is a paid-plan feature β€” so free and lower-tier workspaces get no EU residency guarantee.

EU Data Residency

Cadensa's application runs on Hetzner (Germany), and the database runs on OVHcloud (France). No time entry, project name, or user data ever leaves the EU.

GDPR Tools on Every Plan

Data export, account deletion, and consent management are available on the free plan β€” not locked behind a paid upgrade.

Published EU-only Storage

Cadensa's customer data β€” time entries, projects, reports β€” is held exclusively by EU providers: Hetzner (Germany) and OVHcloud (France). The complete sub-processor list is published, including the US services used for error tracking and static site delivery, which never receive time-tracking data.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Cadensa better than Clockify for GDPR compliance?

For EU-based agencies, yes. Cadensa stores all customer data within the EU (Hetzner, Germany & OVHcloud, France) on every plan, and provides GDPR tooling β€” export, erasure, restriction and objection β€” without a paid upgrade. Clockify does offer an EU (Germany) data region, but only on its Pro and Enterprise plans; workspaces below that are stored in a global region.

Does Cadensa have a free plan like Clockify?

Yes. Cadensa offers a free plan with no credit card required. Clockify's free plan also covers up to 5 users, but it cannot be assigned to the EU data region β€” that requires at least a Pro subscription.

Can I import my Clockify data into Cadensa?

You can export your data from Clockify as CSV and recreate your projects in Cadensa. Full one-click import tooling is on the product roadmap.

Is Cadensa more expensive than Clockify?

Clockify's paid plans run from $3.99 to $14.99/user/month (Basic to Enterprise, annual to monthly billing). Cadensa's current founding member price is €4.99/user/month (regular price €9.99), and it is locked permanently β€” it will not increase as new features are added. Note that Clockify's EU (Germany) data region requires at least a Pro subscription.

Where is Clockify data stored?

Clockify offers four data regions β€” USA, EU (Germany), UK and Australia β€” but region selection is available only on the Pro and Enterprise plans. Workspaces that do not choose a region are stored in Clockify's global region. For EU businesses on the free or lower-tier plans, that means no EU data residency.

Is Clockify GDPR compliant?

Clockify is operated by CAKE.com, provides a DPA and standard contractual clauses, and offers self-service data export and account deletion. What it does not offer on every plan is EU data residency: the EU (Germany) region requires a Pro or Enterprise subscription. Cadensa stores all customer data within the EU (Hetzner, Germany & OVHcloud, France) on every plan, including Free.

Is there a GDPR-hosted Clockify alternative?

Yes. Cadensa is an EU-native Clockify alternative built for agencies. All customer data β€” time entries, projects, reports β€” is stored within the EU (Hetzner, Germany & OVHcloud, France), the company is EU-incorporated (Hungary), and EU data residency is included on every plan rather than being a paid upgrade. Cadensa uses a small number of US sub-processors for error tracking and static site delivery; none of them receive customer time-tracking data, and the full list is published.
